What to expect when you walk in
Visitors are often unsure about etiquette. A few simple customs are all you need, and members will gladly help you.
- Cover your head
- Everyone covers their head inside the Gurdwara. Scarves are usually available at the entrance.
- Remove your shoes
- Shoes are left at the entrance and you may wash your hands before entering the hall.
- Bow and sit on the floor
- Many people bow before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, then sit on the floor. Chairs are available if sitting on the floor is difficult.
- No tobacco, alcohol or meat
- None of these may be brought onto the premises.
- Accept prashad
- A sweet offering is shared at the end of diwan. Receive it with both hands.
